Promoting migrant rights and gender equity in Asia :
Dr. Mary Rose Geraldine A. Sarausad is a distinguished scholar in migration studies and demography. She serves as the acting director, senior lecturer, and Research Support Program coordinator of the Language Center at the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) in Bangkok, Thailand. With a Ph.D. in Demography from Mahidol University, her work has focused on international labor migration, forced displacement, and gender dynamics, especially within Southeast Asia. Her 2013 doctoral dissertation on the contemporary migration of Filipinos in Thailand was a pioneering work that highlighted the less-explored Philippines-Thailand migration system. Moreover, her continuous investigations on the unregulated Filipino migrant movements in the region have provided critical insights into migration patterns and informed policy discussions on migrant rights and protections. She has served as a reviewer for several journals, and as panel chair and speaker in several international conferences. A champion for gender equity, she explores the unique challenges faced by migrant women, contributing valuable perspectives to academic and policy-oriented discourse. Her dedication to understanding and addressing migration and refugee challenges serves as an inspiration for fostering inclusive policies and support for migrants and refugees across the region.
